The smart home of the future will be directly connected to energy markets, here I put together a couple of proof of concepts showing how easily that can be achieved:

Frequency Responsive Smart Home:

Lights in my lounge connected to a feed of system frequency (via ELEXON BM Reports) and turning on and off to help National Grid balance the generation and demand.

Energy Market Flash Brief - Custom Alexa Skill:

Here I developed a custom Alexa skill providing a flash brief utilising a RSS feed of UK Power generation mix. What better way to relax after a hard day in the office ;-)
